I’m not sure of the science but these little stickers, applied to a spot at any point of eruption and left overnight COMPLETELY take away the swelling, soreness and redness. I always have a stash of them.

These work great. I like to leave them on overnight, then when I do my morning skincare I can wipe away the gunk and the spot heals from there.
