The Ordinary’s Retinol Serum 1% in Squalane is a water-free, multi-purpose solution formulated to reduce the appearance of pores, dark spots and fine lines, and improve the overall appearance of skin’s texture.
Enriched with a 1% concentration of the anti-ageing powerhouse retinol, which is a derivative of vitamin A, the lightweight serum delivers visible plumping and firming effects to your skin. Another key antioxidant ingredient, squalane, protects against UV damage and helps to minimise the risk of sun-induced age spots, leaving you with a more even-looking skin tone.

- When to Use: After water-based serums but before heavier treatments.
- Application: Apply a small amount to the face as part of your evening skincare regimen. Do not use with other retinoid treatments. Avoid unprotected solar exposure. Store in a cool, dry place.
- Please note: Retinoids can make the skin more sensitive to UV radiation. Sun protection is particularly important when using retinoids. This product must not be used in conjunction with other retinoids including retinol or retinoic acid. This product is not a treatment for acne. Acne-prone skin may experience a temporary increase in acne during the first few weeks of using any form of retinoid including those used in this formulation.

Highly recommend as a starter
This started me into my retinol journey! I wanted a low dose to start and this did wonders. No irritation at all, made my skin glowy and works just as well as any of the other high-priced retinols. Only reason I won't repurchase is because I moved onto the higher dose

Not a fan
Didn’t like this product. It’s quite oily & didn't sit well on my skin. Didn’t seem to absorb into the skin so then just layering more product over it an hour later. Let for ages to see if it would absorb but no joy.

Retinol is a must have in your skincare routine and this is really good quality, especially given the price. Just always make sure to start at a low concentration (e.g. 0.5%) if you haven't used retinol before and work your way up, make sure the skin is dry when applying and pat into the skin!

Affordable retinol
When looking for retinol, most were out of my price range or really low in percentage. This was affordable and high strength enough that I decided to introduce it into my skincare routine.
